Student Projects

 

Madison Historical Society Project

  • Meet with members of Madison Historical Society [MHS] to fine-tune parameters of work
  • Conduct interviews
  • Integrate results of research into final paper
  • Participate in March 23rd session of seminar featuring the MHS research project


Seminar Paper

A 10 to 15 page case study on 3 entrepreneurs at differing phases in their career path [list to be provided by professor].

  • Young/beginning entrepreneur [less than 5 yrs]
  • Entrepreneur with at least 5 years
  • Well-established entrepreneur with 10 or more years of experience or retired entrepreneur

 

  1. What is the story?
  2. Their vision for success?
  3. Socio-economic and cultural context within which the vision is set?
  4. Skills they consider necessary for success in the business of choice?
  5. Concluding Analysis:
  • Based on lessons learned from guest entrepreneurs and related research, highlight additional strengths and strategies that could benefit entrepreneurs interviewed
     
  • Based on what is learned from all entrepreneurs and using business plan format, create personal plan for achieving success in a selected business or career [integrating specific assets gained from liberal arts education at Drew University]


Web-Based Portfolio

Portfolio to be created from key assignments and posted on student’s web page

  • Brief student bio including photo with self-introduction and summary presentation of student’s desired/projected achievements by the 5th year after completion of academic training
  • Current resume & “business” card
  • Student’s Vision/Mission statement
  • Summary of individual work on Madison Historical Society and contribution to final product; observations on benefit of the experience
  • BS&C Conference paper
  • Case study paper:
    1. Option of presenting in traditional paper form [attention to quality of work!]
    2. May enhance with photos of entrepreneurs interviewed and their businesses
    3. Individual observations on networking experiences/progress throughout seminar
  • Names of students invited guests who attended seminar events [they must be introduced to professor at event and names handed in to student assistant at each session]
  • Summary of a speaker’s presentation must be prepared. Each student will be assigned a session for which a summary of the speaker’s presentation must be prepared and submitted for posting on the seminar website  This work will be graded as a component of the student’s participation assessment.
  • Exceptional results of contacts made with entrepreneurs during seminar experience, such as internships, day of shadowing entrepreneur, referrals to other persons in student’s field of interest, mentoring agreement, etc.
